DPF Cleaning & Diesel Emissions Repair in Edmonton
Diesel emissions repair in Edmonton: DPF cleaning and regens, EGR valves and coolers, DEF and SCR faults.
Emissions faults are one of the most common reasons a modern truck goes into derate. A plugged diesel particulate filter (DPF), a stuck EGR valve, or bad DEF can all cut power until the problem is fixed.
Good diagnosis finds the cause, not just the code. A DPF that keeps plugging often has an upstream problem, such as a leaking injector or an EGR cooler leak, which will plug a new or cleaned filter again. That can mean engine work as well as the filter.
Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) freezes at about −12 °C (11 °F), according to Cummins Filtration, so trucks with SCR systems heat the DEF tank and lines. Edmonton's January days average −10.3 °C (Environment Canada 1991–2020 normals), so a heater or sensor fault in that system tends to show up in winter as DEF warnings.
Common jobs
- Forced (parked) regenerations
- DPF removal, cleaning and replacement (some shops clean filters in-house, others send them out)
- EGR valves, coolers and sensors
- DEF pumps, heaters, injectors and NOx sensors
- Derate diagnosis
Have this ready when you call
- Year, make and model of the truck or trailer, and the unit number if it's a fleet unit
- Where the unit is now, and whether it can be driven safely
- Any warning lights or fault codes on the dash
- When the problem started and what it's doing (noise, smoke, power loss, air leak)
- A PO number, if your company uses them
Common questions
Why does my truck keep going into derate?
The most common causes are a plugged DPF, a DEF quality or dosing fault, or a failed NOx sensor. The fault codes point to which one, and fixing the underlying cause stops it coming back.
